misterfiz: but zenobia, WHERE do you throw it away??
    28 Jan 09, 20:52
Zenobia: Albert, you either fill them up or you throw it away.
    28 Jan 09, 20:27
Albert: mr fiz, i had posted 2 pics with text, tomorrow can you help me print from my blog?
    28 Jan 09, 19:25
Albert: i wanna ask all of you, what comes to your mind when you are at a party, with a empty disposable cup?
    28 Jan 09, 19:24
Albert: everybody!! i guess all of you still remember abt the dustbin pic i presented last lesson right?

  2. here is the problem...
people always wants to look for one, but when they are having fun, they will think its a waste of time to actually look for a bin.
like for me, when im having reunion dinner, the cup we used is disposable cups. when i finish a cup, i tend to throw the cup. as a few minutes passes, i want to drink another cup.
another problem here is that, although we may remember to throw away the cup, we will use more cups. as more cups uses, the bin will be full, we want leave the cups on the table.

  3. we have spoken in class today.... so albert, are you "on-track"? you have to be clear about your context... and based on some of the ideas discussed... try to think of a suitable "not-too-open-not-too-close" DESIGN BRIEF.... you not sure i won't scold you... just call. I'll be there for you. as long as you are there for yourself....get it?!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. and make sure whatever we spoke of in class is documented inside your journal...

  5. i got problems with the design brief, i cant find the correct words to discribe my thoughts.

i want the product to be long-lasting, looks nice, not in the way of having fun, at the same time, we know that product is someone's.

  6. Leonard(TPSS): however for styrofoam mabye use it o perform party magic. *personal habit* . hmm i was thinking tho, mabye dispose i seperately from other food so can recycle it. Hi Bernice

Leonard(TPSS): hmm, disposable cup? wad kinda tho, if its plastic i may either throw it away, refill it or just crush it then uncrush just for da noise.

  7. ok, explain it in these areas:
    context:
where and when is this event happening? what is this event? describe one possible environment.
    user:
what are the needs? what is the solution you have in mind for the user? describe the solution.

  9. mr fiz!!! i have researched and take pictures and try to explain the whole situation. i have found some ''problems'' or direction for better problems. but i know my target user is old people.. i research or somehow take down notes when i was watching my grandmother trying to do her laundry. she had encounter a few problems like for example she have no strength to carry some of the laundry. {will explain more in blog) so ya... so i want to ask u am i on the right track now??

    ReplyDelete
  10. WOW! yes, you are very much on track.... u observed the details of a HUMAN BEHAVIOUR, your grandmother doing the laundry. you have a nice CONTEXT here and you have got EVIDENCES right? the pictures? impressed me tomm in class further ok! can't wait to see the NEEDs you have come up with.... great job dear!

Leonard(TPSS): hmm, disposable cup? wad kinda tho, if its plastic i may either throw it away, refill it or just crush it then uncrush just for da noise.

    context:
    where--A house/chalet.

when--any time of the year. most probably starting of evening.

event--maybe a celebration or just a simple gathering

    possible environment--Dont understand

    user:
needs--to get rid or to keep cups.

solution--as its a gathering event, we need to eat. i was wondering if we can have a bigger cup that can function as a bowl and cup at the same time?
how about making lots of cups a decorative item?
all i think about now is to how to keep the cups in order without keeping them.(by leaving the cups of the tables or anywhere, it looks like a decorative)

    ReplyDelete
  14. lots of cups as decoratives, maybe theres a pattern no matter how we stack it or put it side by side? like teris, the shapes. putting them together looks nice.

  15. nice ideas Albert. let's imagine a scenario.
    1. i am partying; dancing, mingling, going around socializing and STANDING WHILE I AM EATING OR DRINKING? think about it; make your own observations
    2. i am holding a CUP. its empty. i throw it away because i am partying. then i stop to rest and talk to a friend. I GET ANOTHER NEW CUP! and the cycle might continue....
As a responsible citizen What am i suppose to do with it? it is wise to use disposable cups all the time by the way? what is a GREEN solution?

  16. possible environment: a birthday party at an east coast chalet..... (even if you do not understand, can try right?)

  17. AH KWANG: i understand your problem because we discussed! but how about other readers looking at your journal? you have to be clear in your documentation, highlight important points and illustrate your visuals in a clear and reognisable manner right???

anyway, good problem to look into... if you're taking pictures in class tomm, make sure you record all the context behaviour observations..

  18. Mr fiz! I went "out" to find more problems but I really cannot decide on what is best and what is a good problem. I found one about people throwing their cigarette butts on the ground, another is food which is stuck at the basin stainer (did i spell it correctly?) after we wash our dishes then we will have to pick the strainer thingy up and clear the "food" or waste (so disguating!), and another problem which i just thought of is pupils being organized. i feel that organizers don't help. i always forget to check my organizers when i get home because it is stuck in my bag and my bag will be at some corner. help meeeeeee! which one should i pick? oh and if anyone in our class has already chosen one of those problems please tell me. i dont wanna "steal" your problem. :)
    -bernice

    ReplyDelete
  19. BERN, you thought about it, you did not steal dear. great authentic problems.... hmmm... i would have difficulty choosing too.... which one has more meaning to you? what problem-solution will make a greater impact on the user? personally i like one of your problem scenarios... but i'm not telling you~~~! anyway, remember to look at a context behaviour to really understand the problem and provide an innovative solution.

get yourself more organized la, so that you can do well for D&T... :)

  20. I haven't come up with a design brief yet!
That quite because I've spent my time thinking of a VERY INNOVATIVE problem. A problem that no one thinks of, at all. One that someone goes 'Wow' at.

I need some advice and triggers!

  21. Whiteboard! Mrs Ling has always wished that her students who take DNT would create something; when she press a button, the whiteboard will be clean ><
Books! For me, bookshelves dont help :(
The case study.. I chose Henry Ford. But there are so many Henry Fords, none has the year 1988 to 1905 neh! How?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bernice! I think your problem about students not checking their organisers is good:) And I doubt anyone has that idea too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. bern, i agree with RAE....

carina, concentrate on your blood drive... and choose a more recent designer, someone from the POP area, it would go nicely with your personality.

CJ, this INNOVATIVE idea should be inside your DESIGN JOURNAL!!! the main intent of this subject is to document your thinking process in the design journa1!! now you know why I am fuming mad today in class....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hmm, can you suggest one for me since I cant remember the names of those who belong to the pop area....

  25. GUYS! most of your GAMEPLAN2 is not specific.... can someone post a more specific gameplan example here?

  27. im actually stuck when disposable cups are not in used

  28. albert: what can you use if you're not using disposable cups?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mr Fiz, I'm sorta stuck in ideation leh. Did research, photo analysis, persona profile.. etc already, but it's not helping me much :/ Howwww?

  30. hmmm.... have u done a simple product analysis? i leave the part of 'what product to analyse' to you ok... ;)
